What Do You Need to Say “Yes” and “No” To?

September 15, 2015/in Being True To Yourself, Blog, Business Coaching, Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone, Heart Based Business Coaching/by Melissa Dawn

When your inner voice, your intuition, your gut talks to you… do you listen to it?

My intuition had been telling me for months that I needed to make certain changes in my life and business. I kept pushing this voice away and telling it, “I am too busy. I will deal with this later. Everything is okay.”

I don’t know about you, but whenever I push this voice away, life has a way of making me realize it needs to be heard, NOW.

I went on vacation and did a double dose of coaching hours before deciding to actually take a full week off.  As life would have it, I ended up getting really sick while on vacation. There I was, dipping my feet into the waters off a beautiful North Carolina beach, but I couldn’t fully enjoy it because my body was not cooperating. I didn’t want to be that sick away from home, so my friend and I decided to drive 20 hours straight to get back home.

Being a coach, I knew better than to simply dismiss this as “I got sick on vacation.” I knew I had to sit down and seriously think about what was working and not working in my life and my business. I needed to determine steps to re-align myself, and bring the best version of myself forward to everyone around me.

I created a list of what I needed to say “yes” to and “no” to in order to make this happen.

I decided to say “yes” to:

  • Overhauling my website to target the clients I feel I work best with. Restructuring my coaching and workshops in such a way that I’d be able to go on vacation without having to work double duty beforehand.

Listening to my inner voice AS SOON AS it starts telling me something.

I decided to say “no” to:

  • Taking on new clients that are ONLY looking for business coaching. Reason being, I believe in taking a whole person approach. Whatever is happening in one area of your life spills out onto other areas. You can not work on just one area of your life and expect it to change without looking at the other areas as well.

It’s hard to say “no” to people who want to work with you. But I need to be honest with myself and my clients. I give the best of myself to clients when I’m super passionate about what I’m doing.

For me, helping people become the CEOs of their lives, to tap into their inner leader and to lead with confidence, makes me happiest. This is where I want to invest my energies.

I realized I needed to start saying “no” to certain things in order to open the door to what I truly want.

  • Responding to emails and calls on vacation. I deserve (we all deserve) to unplug 100% for at least a few days a year. It’s too bad it took getting sick and losing a vacation to finally decide to make this happen.

I felt bad about not being available for my regular client coaching sessions, so I took some calls and answered some emails… but I ended up getting so sick that I could barely take care of myself, let alone anyone else.

I realized, if I don’t make time to take care of me, and allow myself time to rest and refuel, how on earth could I be strong for my clients? Even though I knew this concept in theory, experiencing it for myself has ensured I will now apply it 100%.

Drinking tap water, even if I am in North America. Wow. Who would have thought you could get so sick from a glass of tap water in North America?

These are the things I am choosing to say “yes” and “no” to in order to get my life and business back to being joyful and balanced.

What do you need to say “yes” and “no” to in your life and business?

When your inner voice starts trying to tell you something, I truly hope you will listen to that voice, and partner with it before life has a way of forcing you to.

And one more thing… my website comes with my (free) eBook “6 Steps to Unleash Your Inner Leader”, you can get it free by clicking here.

Here is to you being the CEO of your life!
